    Brian,

The U.S. Park Police no longer give crowd estimates, neither does the DC Metropolitan Police Department. They quit giving estimates after the Million Man March. Farrakhan got a wild hair up his ass and threatened to sue over the low estimate given by the U.S. Park Police. The Park Police then said, in essence, "Screw it; do your own estimating from now on." (For what it's worth, I was there, and the Park Police estimates were a lot closer than Farrakhan's.)

The estimate of the size of the 9/12 gathering was made by officials of the DC Fire Department, and they pegged attendance at between 60,000 and 75,000. That's as close to an official estimate as you're going to get from any recognized authority in DC, and a lot closer to the actual size of the crowd than anything anybody associated with Cluster Fox News is apt to give out.

The DC Metro system reported that ridership was up maybe a hundred fifty thousand, but the annual DC Black Family Reunion was going on at the same time on the National Mall, and could account for a substantial amount of that bump up in riders.

Woody, Thanks for your response. I had suspected such was the case. Hope all is going well with your brother. You gotta make one more trip out to Montana before you hang up your traveling shoes. I've got a cold Moose Drool (local beer) waiting for you and guest quarters with a great view of the Absaroka mountains if you ever make it. Any new collections of poetry in the works? Take care, Brian
